What is the initial consultation?

Ayurvedic examinations generally consist of three parts:

Observation (Darshan):

The doctor first evaluates general physical health by looking at the patient and observing his/her movements, body contour, and general qualities of the skin, hair, and nails.

Touch (Sparsha):

The doctor then employs touch, including palpation, auscultation, and percussion or tapping based on the patient’s issues and symptoms the patient is experiencing. There is special focus on the patient's pulse, and tongue which is the mirror to circulatory system and digestive system.

Questions (Prashna):

The doctor asks the patient about complaints and symptoms, as well as the duration of discomfort and disease progression. The doctor also investigates about associated mental and psychological conditions. Any disease related blood test reports and investigation summaries will be also discussed.
